The Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe,
is deeply disturbed by the recent development at Future Global Resource (FGR), where military personnel have been deployed to the mining site to dismiss certain workers without prior formal communication or clear
reasons.

In a statement copied to The Punch newspaper,he condemned this unlawful action in the strongest possible terms.

He said, the use of military personnel to regulate access to the mining site, determining who may retain
their employment status without any formal communication or engagement with the affected employees, undermines the Labour Act of 2003 (Act 651), Section 57(2), which delineates the procedures for contract termination. It also raises critical legal and ethical questions regarding the rights of workers in a democratic society. Under which labour statutes is it permissible for military personnel to engage in actions that directly affect employment contracts?.

“I request that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) and the Minerals Commission provide immediate clarification on the following:
1. Who prepared the list, and what criteria were used for selection?
2. Is this redundancy or outright termination? What are the terms and conditions of the dismissal,
and what engagement has been done with the affected workers?
3. Why is the military involved in this process, and what is the justification for their presence?
4. What is the fate of workers not included in the list, and why were only 213 workers selected?
I demand a prompt response to these questions and an explanation. I also call on all relevant
stakeholders to add their voices to this matter as we prioritize the livelihoods of our constituents, the economy, job security, and the sustainability of the FGR mine.”He indicated.
