The National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Samuel Sapong has said that there’s no way peace can prevail without Justice.
Speaking to the Chief and People of Atebubu- Amantin during a church service ceremony to climax a seven day Kwafie Yam festival yesterday,Dr Samuel Sarpong noted it is good everybody is talking about peace but indicated without justice there is no way peace can prevail.
Dr Sarpong emphasised the importance of justice in achieving lasting peace.
He stated that peace should not be pursued at the expense of addressing legitimate concerns.
The position of the NDC is that for there to be peace, there should always be justice.
He said some of the issues that the NDC are raising should be addressed by chiefs and the clergy. For example, in the Tachiman incident where 8 people lost their lives.
Dr Sarpong questioned that,if there were findings, how were the findings implemented? The murders, what are the investigations so far and where have we reached?.
He told the gathering that, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo who is the President of the land is going round telling the whole Country he’s not ready to hand over power to anyone who wins election 2024 except the leader of his party (The NPP) and no one is concerned about that.
“It is about time Chiefs and the clergy in the Country should be bold and criticize such comments from the President. ” This I believe would ensure the peace we’re all yearning for, Dr Sarpong further indicated.
Dr Sarpong together with Hon. Sanja Nanja, the Member of Parliament for Atebubu – Amantin constituency in the Bono East Region afterwards donated GHC26,000 on behalf of the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, for the refurbishment of the female maternity ward at Amantin health center.
Crates of assorted soft drinks were also presented to the chiefs and people of Amantin to celebrate the festival.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for the area also donated 50 bags of cement towards the development of the health facility.
Hon. Sanja Nanja admonished the youth to be peaceful during and after the election.
The chiefs and the good people of Amantin expressed their profound gratitude to the former President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and Hon. Sanja Nanja and the entire NDC fraternity for their immense support during the celebration.
