The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the people of the Yapei Kusawgu constituency in the Savannah Region to deliver an overwhelming victory for the party in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking at a well-attended mini-rally in Kusawgu, he urged residents not to be complacent despite the constituency being a traditional NDC stronghold.
“This election is very, very important in the history of our democracy,” Asiedu Nketia stated, emphasizing the stakes involved.
We will win by all means. John Mahama will win, and John Jinapor will win. But you and I know that we cannot fully trust the referee.” He warned supporters to be vigilant and to prioritize turnout, ensuring the party secures every possible vote.
The NDC Chairman reminded the crowd that while the constituency’s loyalty to the party is appreciated, a massive voter turnout remains crucial.
He urged residents not to skip voting due to overconfidence in the party’s dominance in the area. “We know we will win in Kusawgu, but we don’t want to lose even a single vote. Don’t stay home or go to your farms because you think we’ve already won. Let everybody come out to vote,” he admonished.
Avoid “Skirt and Blouse” Voting
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also cautioned against splitting votes between the parliamentary and presidential candidates, a practice popularly known as “skirt and blouse” voting. He accused their opponents of promoting this strategy to weaken the NDC’s strength in parliament.
We need John Jinapor just as much as we need President John Mahama,” he emphasized. He explained the long-term benefits of supporting both candidates fully, highlighting the continuity of development efforts.
“Even after four years when John Mahama is leaving, John Jinapor will still be available to continue the good works John Mahama has been doing. Parliament has no term limits, so let’s give them both our full support.”
Unity and Vigilance
Asiedu Nketia reiterated the importance of unity within the party, stressing that the outcome of this election could shape the future of Ghana’s democracy. He encouraged party agents and supporters to remain vigilant on election day to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
The mini-rally was attended by a cross-section of party faithful, including local leaders, youth groups, and community elders, who pledged their commitment to ensuring a decisive victory for the NDC. The rally forms part of a series of engagements by the party to consolidate its support base ahead of the crucial polls.
