The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Hon. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Church and Royal House Chapel in the Akwatia Constituency on August 31, 2025.

The purpose of the visit was to seek prayers for a peaceful by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025, and for victory for the NDC’s candidate, Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo, who is number two on the ballot.

The Akwatia by-election is necessitated by the demise of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the former Member of Parliament for Akwatia on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The election will determine who will succeed him as the representative of the constituency in Parliament.

During the visit, Dr. Amoakohene called for the hands of the Lord to guide the process and crown their collective effort with success for the people of Akwatia.

He emphasized the importance of a peaceful election, urging all stakeholders to ensure that the process is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner .

The NDC is confident of winning the by-election, with a recent poll by Global Info Analytics predicting a victory for Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo with 53% of the votes.

The party’s lawyers have also been deployed to Akwatia to ensure a peaceful and transparent election process.

The National Peace Council (NPC) has invited the NDC and NPP to a meeting to engage in a dialogue ahead of the by-election. This effort aims to promote peace and stability during the election period.

Religious leaders in the area have also appealed to the NDC and NPP to ensure a violence-free election. They urged the parties to allow only the police to handle security issues related to the election and to desist from engaging private security personnel, known as vigilantes.
