The Ghana Education Service (GES) has declared Friday, January 23, 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers across the country, with learners granted a holiday on the day.
The announcement was contained in an official circular issued on January 14, 2026, and signed by the Acting Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, Dr Munawaru Issahaque, on behalf of the Acting Director-General of GES.
According to the statement, the decision underscores the importance of Continuous Professional Development in improving teaching quality and strengthening the professional capacity of teachers nationwide.
The CPD Day is intended to provide teachers with dedicated time and the necessary institutional support to fully participate in Phase Two of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection training programme, without disrupting teaching and learning activities.
“In view of the above, 23rd January, 2026 is therefore declared as a holiday for learners,” the statement emphasized.
GES has accordingly directed all Regional Directors of Education to inform Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education, as well as Heads of Basic and Secondary Schools, to strictly adhere to the directive.
The Service expressed confidence in the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of the CPD Day, which forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism and safeguard data and digital systems within the education sector.
Copies of the circular were also forwarded to the Chairman of the GES Council, the Acting Director-General, Deputy Director-General (Management Services), and Directors of Secondary and Pre-Tertiary Education at the GES Headquarters in Accra.
