The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Anwel Sadat, has paid an official working visit to the Volta River Authority (VRA) at Anwomaso as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly and key state institutions operating within the municipality.

Hon. Anwel Sadat was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director and other Heads of Departments of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly during the visit, underscoring the importance the Assembly attaches to institutional partnerships and coordinated development planning.
The visit formed part of the MCE’s broader agenda to engage major public and private institutions within Oforikrom to better understand their operations, challenges, and contributions to local development, while identifying areas for mutual cooperation.

During the engagement, the Municipal team undertook an inspection of the VRA facilities and surrounding areas to familiarize themselves with ongoing interventions and infrastructural assets under the Authority’s management.
The inspection provided an opportunity for first-hand assessment of the institution’s footprint within the municipality and its impact on the host communities.
Management of the Volta River Authority at Anwomaso briefed the delegation on VRA’s core mandate, long-term vision, and strategic interventions aimed at ensuring reliable power generation and distribution, environmental sustainability, and community development.
Discussions also focused on the socio-economic benefits the Authority brings to the area, including employment opportunities, support for local businesses, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Hon. Anwel Sadat, in his remarks, commended the Volta River Authority for its vital role in Ghana’s energy sector and its contribution to the development of Oforikrom Municipality.
He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the Municipal Assembly and VRA to address shared challenges, particularly those relating to land use, environmental protection, infrastructure development, and community relations.
According to the MCE, effective cooperation between local government authorities and major institutions such as VRA is essential for accelerated development at the grassroots level.
He assured the VRA management of the Assembly’s readiness to work closely with the Authority to create a conducive environment for its operations while ensuring that host communities also benefit meaningfully from its presence.
The Municipal Coordinating Director and Heads of Departments also engaged with VRA officials on technical and administrative matters, exploring avenues for coordinated planning, information sharing, and joint initiatives that align with the Assembly’s Medium-Term Development Plan.
Officials of the Volta River Authority welcomed the visit and described it as timely and constructive. They expressed appreciation for the Assembly’s proactive approach and reiterated VRA’s commitment to maintaining cordial relations with the Municipal Assembly and residents of Oforikrom.
Management further pledged to continue engaging local authorities on issues affecting operations and community development.
