The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, together with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, on Tuesday joined revered traditional authorities and distinguished elders of Asanteman to respectfully see off His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, at the Prempeh I International Airport as he departed Ghana for a brief official trip abroad.
The solemn yet dignified gathering brought together prominent traditional leaders, chiefs, and elders (Nananom), as well as government officials, in a powerful display of unity, reverence for traditional authority, and collective goodwill toward the revered monarch. The presence of both political and traditional leadership underscored the strong bond between state institutions and the Asante Kingdom.
At the airport, prayers were offered for the Asantehene’s safe journey, good health, and the successful outcome of his official engagements outside the country. The atmosphere was marked by deep respect and cultural pride, reflecting the central role Otumfuo Osei Tutu II continues to play not only in Asanteman but in national development and global diplomacy.
Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted the Asantehene’s enduring contributions to peace, education, traditional governance, and socio-economic development in Ghana and beyond. His international engagements, they noted, continue to project the rich heritage and values of the Asante Kingdom onto the global stage while fostering partnerships that benefit the nation.
The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, described the moment as a symbol of unity and shared responsibility, emphasizing the importance of supporting traditional leadership in its efforts to promote development and cultural preservation. He reaffirmed the unwavering loyalty and prayers of the people of Kumasi and the entire Ashanti Region for the King’s safe return.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, also reiterated the government’s respect for the Asantehene and traditional authorities, stressing that collaboration between government and chieftaincy institutions remains vital to peace, stability, and progress in the region.
