The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a massive metro-wide clean-up exercise scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation and promote public health within the Kumasi Metropolis.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Assembly, the KMA urged residents, traders, businesses, and corporate entities to actively participate in the exercise, which is expected to commence at 6:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon. The clean-up forms part of the government’s broader sanitation drive aimed at ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more orderly urban environment.
According to the Assembly, all trading and commercial activities will remain closed until 12:00 noon on the day of the exercise to allow residents and business operators to fully take part. The directive applies to markets, shops, and other commercial centers across the metropolis.
The KMA further announced that commercial vehicles will not be permitted to operate during the stipulated hours within designated operational areas. This measure, the Assembly explained, is intended to ensure smooth execution of the exercise and enhance safety for participants.
The affected routes and areas include:
Labour Roundabout through to Asafo Interchange to A-Life
Abinkye to GRA
Don Kirk through Asafo Interchange to Ahmadiyya Roundabout
Santasi Roundabout to Santasi Market
Suame Roundabout through Abrepo Junction to Sofoline Interchange
Sofoline Interchange to Bekwai Roundabout
Residents within these corridors are expected to engage in activities such as desilting drains, sweeping streets, clearing refuse dumps, and general environmental cleaning in collaboration with sanitation officers.
The Assembly emphasized that the clean-up exercise is a collective responsibility and called on residents, traders, corporate bodies, commercial drivers, and the general public to strictly comply with the directive. It noted that improved sanitation is critical to preventing sanitation-related diseases and maintaining Kumasi’s status as a major commercial and cultural hub.
The KMA expressed confidence that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the exercise would significantly enhance cleanliness and reinforce positive sanitation attitudes among residents.
The statement concluded by appealing to media houses to assist in disseminating the information widely to ensure maximum public awareness and participation.
