The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Hon. Answel Sadat, together with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), have undertaken an inspection visit to the Oduom–Anwomaso terminal to assess the state of the facility and evaluate the activities taking place within the transport hub.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the municipal and regional authorities to ensure improved orderliness, safety, and efficiency at major transport terminals across the Ashanti Region, particularly in areas experiencing increased commercial and commuter activity.

During the inspection, the delegation interacted with terminal managers, drivers, traders, and commuters to gain first-hand information about the daily operations, challenges, and security concerns within the terminal.

Hon. Answel Sadat emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and proper management at transport terminals, noting that such facilities serve as key economic and social centres for residents.

“The Oduom–Anwomaso Terminal is a vital transport link for many communities. It is important that operations here are well coordinated, safe, and supportive of both commuters and transport operators,” the MCE stated.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, reiterated the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to ensuring that public transport terminals remain safe, well-regulated, and conducive for business.

He noted that transport terminals often attract heavy human activity and therefore require effective monitoring to prevent criminal activities, congestion, and disorder.

“As a region, we are working closely with municipal authorities and security agencies to make sure our public spaces, especially transport terminals, are properly managed. Security and cleanliness must not be compromised,” Dr. Amoakohene stressed.

Members of REGSEC present at the inspection assessed security arrangements at the terminal and examined measures being implemented to maintain peace and order.

The Council’s involvement underscores the government’s broader strategy of integrating local governance with security oversight to address emerging concerns in busy public spaces.

The team also discussed the need for stronger collaboration between terminal authorities, law enforcement agencies, and local assemblies to ensure compliance with regulations.

Addressing Challenges at the Terminal
Although the visit was largely an assessment exercise, officials acknowledged that terminals such as Oduom–Anwomaso face challenges including overcrowding, unauthorized trading activities, traffic congestion, sanitation issues, and the need for improved infrastructure.

The inspection is expected to inform future interventions aimed at upgrading the terminal, streamlining transport operations, and enhancing commuter experience.

The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has, in recent months, intensified efforts to improve transport management and urban planning within the municipality, as part of a broader agenda to promote development, security, and economic growth.

Hon. Sadat assured residents and transport operators that the Assembly, in collaboration with the Regional Minister and REGSEC, will continue to prioritize initiatives that enhance public safety and ensure that transport terminals operate efficiently.

At the end of the inspection, the delegation called on drivers, traders, and commuters to cooperate with authorities in maintaining order, observing safety protocols, and supporting ongoing efforts to improve the terminal.

The visit to the Oduom–Anwomaso Terminal is expected to be followed by further assessments and stakeholder engagements, as government works toward modernizing transport infrastructure and strengthening security across the Ashanti Region.
