Oforikrom MCE Warns Public Against Fake Social Media Accounts in His Name

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Oforikrom, Mr. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, has issued a strong caution to residents and the general public to remain vigilant against the growing threat of fake social media accounts being created in the names of public officials.

This follows the emergence of a Facebook account bearing his name, which has been widely flagged as a fraudulent and unauthorized profile.
The image circulating online, boldly stamped “FAKE ACCOUNT,” has sparked concern among community members, with many calling for heightened awareness and stronger safeguards against online impersonation.

In a statement to the press, the Oforikrom MCE stressed that he remains committed to transparent leadership and responsible communication with the people of the municipality.

He noted that the creation of fake accounts in the names of government officials not only undermines public confidence but also opens the door for criminals to exploit unsuspecting citizens.

“The public must be careful about who they engage with online. Impersonation has become a serious digital threat, and we will not allow anyone to misuse my name to deceive residents,” Mr. Ahmed emphasized.

The incident highlights a broader national challenge, as fake profiles and online scams continue to increase across social media platforms.

Such accounts are often used to spread misinformation, solicit money under false pretenses, or damage the reputation of public servants.

Observers say impersonation of leaders has become one of the most common cyber-related issues affecting governance and community engagement in recent times.

Mr. Ahmed urged residents to rely only on verified and officially recognized communication channels when seeking information or assistance from his office.

He advised the public not to accept friend requests, respond to messages, or engage in any financial transactions with accounts whose authenticity cannot be confirmed.

“My office operates through official municipal structures and recognized platforms. Any request for money or personal favors through social media should be treated as suspicious,” he cautioned.

The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly is reportedly working with relevant authorities to ensure the fake account is reported and removed, while investigations are pursued to identify those behind the impersonation.

Community leaders have commended the MCE for acting swiftly to protect residents and preserve the integrity of his office.

Many have also called on social media companies to improve verification systems and respond promptly to reports of impersonation.

Despite the setback, Mr. Ahmed reaffirmed his dedication to development, peace, and progress in Oforikrom.

He assured constituents that his focus remains on delivering quality leadership, improving municipal services, and strengthening community trust.

“Our work is about the people, and we will not allow digital fraudsters to distract us from the development agenda of Oforikrom,” he stated.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious accounts and misinformation to the appropriate authorities and to exercise caution in their online interactions.

The Municipal Assembly also urged citizens to verify any communication purportedly coming from the MCE or his office before taking action.
