The District Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Hon. MBA Zechariah Alenbilla, has called on residents of the district to strengthen their commitment to unity, discipline, and community development as Ghana marks its 69th Independence Anniversary.

Delivering a speech during the district’s Independence Day parade held at the forecourt of the District Assembly in Barekese on Friday, March 6, 2026, the DCE emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in advancing local and national development.
Addressing a gathering that included traditional authorities, government officials, teachers, students, security personnel, and members of the public, Hon. Alenbilla noted that the Independence Day celebration is not only an opportunity to commemorate Ghana’s liberation from colonial rule but also a moment for reflection on the country’s progress and future direction.
He highlighted the national theme for the celebration, “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” describing it as a powerful reminder that nation-building requires sustained commitment, sacrifice, and cooperation from citizens at all levels.
According to the DCE, the theme reflects two critical pillars of development: economic prosperity and emotional hope. He explained that economic prosperity involves strengthening the economy, creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and expanding infrastructure so that development reaches every community.
In the context of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, Hon. Alenbilla said building prosperity means investing in agriculture, empowering farmers, supporting small-scale enterprises, and improving educational infrastructure to drive sustainable growth.
He revealed that the District Assembly has initiated several infrastructure projects aimed at improving educational facilities and enhancing skills development across the district. Among the key projects highlighted were the construction of a six-unit classroom block at Akwaboah, the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Nketia, and the renovation of existing classroom blocks at Amakye Bare.
Additional projects include the construction of another three-unit classroom block at Barekese and the re-roofing of a six-unit classroom block at Asamang to provide safer and more conducive learning environments for students.
Hon. Alenbilla stressed that improving educational infrastructure remains a priority for the Assembly because education is a fundamental driver of long-term development and prosperity.
Touching on the second dimension of the theme—restoring hope—the DCE noted that hope among citizens is strengthened when leadership demonstrates responsiveness, transparency, and accountability.
He stated that restoring hope requires leaders to listen carefully to the concerns of the people, address their needs sincerely, and ensure that no community is left behind in the development process.
The DCE also acknowledged the leadership of Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, whom he described as a people-centered leader known for his accessibility and strong connection with citizens at the grassroots level.
According to Hon. Alenbilla, the President’s governance style places emphasis on practical solutions and infrastructure development aimed at improving the living conditions of Ghanaians while promoting sustainable and impactful national progress.
Reflecting on the significance of Ghana’s independence, the DCE reminded participants that the freedoms enjoyed today were secured through the sacrifices and determination of the nation’s forefathers. He therefore urged citizens to honour that legacy by promoting patriotism, discipline, and national unity.
He further called on residents of Atwima Nwabiagya North to support the District Assembly’s development agenda and actively participate in community initiatives that promote peace and progress.
Hon. Alenbilla also took the opportunity to address the students who participated in the parade, encouraging them to remain focused on their studies and uphold values of discipline and hard work.

“You are the future leaders of Ghana,” he told the students, urging them to respect their teachers and parents while striving to contribute positively to society.

He emphasized that with determination and collective effort, the district can build a stronger local economy, foster sustainable development, and secure a brighter future for generations to come.

The DCE concluded by expressing appreciation to the organizers of the event, the security services, teachers, and students for their commitment and participation in making the celebration successful.

He ended his address with a patriotic message: “Long live Atwima Nwabiagya North District. Long live Ghana. Happy 69th Independence Day, and may God bless us all.”
