The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested eight persons suspected to be behind a series of highway robberies along major road networks within the Ashanti and adjoining regions.
According to police reports, the suspects are linked to a robbery attack that occurred on January 29, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m. along the Nkenkaasu–Darso stretch of the Techiman–Kumasi Highway in the Akomadan District. The gang reportedly attacked motorists and robbed them of unspecified amounts of cash and mobile phones.
In a related incident on February 2, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., the same group is alleged to have carried out another robbery operation along the same stretch of road. During the attack, a VIP bus transporting 49 passengers was ambushed. Two female passengers sustained gunshot wounds to their thighs, while the suspects made away with cash and mobile phones belonging to the victims.
The suspects have been identified as Seidu Fuseni, alias Baali; Dramani Rasak, 22; Moro Yakubu, alias Dogo; Ibrahim Issiaka, 28; Zakaria Fuseni, 28; Amadu Umaru, 30; Iddrisu Abubakar, 30; and Issah Alhassan, 40.
Police investigations indicate that the group had planned to undertake another robbery operation along the Akomadan–Darso road on March 14, 2026, but the plan was foiled following their arrest on the same day.
The suspects have reportedly admitted involvement in several other robbery cases, including incidents along the Mampong–Ejura road, Offinso Kokoti, Wenchi during the 2025 Sallah festivities, the Booko–Sunyani road, Buipe in the Northern Region, and Obuasi, where one member of the group was killed during a police shootout.
The suspects were arraigned before the Effiduase Magistrate Court on March 16, 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with investigations. They are expected to reappear at a later date. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest two additional accomplices who remain at large.
In a separate development, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, identified as Benjamin Afedzie, for possession of suspected human parts.
The suspect was arrested on March 6, 2026, at about 10:50 a.m. during a police snap check at Kwamang 50-50 by officers from the Boamang FPU Base. A search conducted on a Sprinter commercial vehicle traveling from Kumasi to Boamang led to the discovery of a food flask containing a fresh heart, two eyeballs, a bottle of blood, and a powdered substance suspected to be a human skull.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted that the powdered substance was a human skull but claimed that the other items were animal parts intended for a traditional healer in Boamang.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Offinso Circuit Court on March 9, 2026, and remanded into police custody. The case was adjourned to March 26, 2026 for further proceedings.
The exhibits have been sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for forensic examination. Police say investigations are ongoing.
