GFZA Crowns Heritage Month with Culture, Unity and Economic Vision

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has successfully climaxed its 2026 Heritage Month celebration with a colourful event that highlighted Ghana’s cultural heritage and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to economic growth and national development.

The event, held on March 27 under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope – Celebrating Our Heritage the Free Zones Way,” brought together management, staff, and stakeholders in a display of unity, culture, and shared purpose.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Lateef Apau Wiredu, described the occasion as a moment of reflection and national pride.

He noted that beyond celebration, the event provided an opportunity to appreciate Ghana’s rich cultural heritage while reaffirming a collective commitment to development.

He further emphasized that the work of GFZA continues to produce tangible results, including thriving industries, increased exports, and expanded opportunities for Ghanaians. According to him, celebrating heritage the Free Zones way means combining cultural identity with operational excellence.

Delivering the keynote address, the Chief Executive Officer of GFZA,Dr Mary Awusi, stated that the theme reflects the core mandate of the Authority. She explained that GFZA’s role goes beyond facilitating trade and investment to shaping Ghana’s economic future through the Free Zones Programme.

Dr. Awusi highlighted that the Authority has over the years attracted significant investments, boosted exports, and contributed to job creation across the country. She added that Free Zones enterprises currently export a variety of products, including garments, processed foods, and pharmaceuticals, to markets across Africa and beyond.

She stressed that while building prosperity remains critical, restoring hope is equally important, particularly for young people, entrepreneurs, and communities that depend on economic growth.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Finance and Administration, Musah Sibiri Hamidu, underscored the importance of strong systems, accountability, and teamwork in sustaining progress. He urged all stakeholders to remain united and committed to national development.

The celebration featured cultural performances by staff and national service personnel representing various regions of Ghana, promoting cultural appreciation and unity.

Overall, the event reinforced GFZA’s commitment to building prosperity and restoring hope by harnessing Ghanaian ingenuity for global impact.
