The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly has secured approval for the construction of mechanised boreholes in four underserved communities following a formal request by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

The beneficiary communities, Gyaekontabuo, Boatengkrom, Achiase, and Wioso Konkomba have long faced challenges in accessing safe and reliable potable water. Residents in these areas have depended largely on unprotected streams and rivers, exposing them to waterborne diseases and affecting their overall health and livelihoods.
In a letter dated February 12, Hon. Abubakar Sedik appealed to PURC to support the provision of mechanized boreholes to help address the situation and improve living conditions in the District.
The request emphasized the urgent need for clean water and highlighted its importance in promoting public health, enhancing productivity, and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation for all.
Following the approval, a team from PURC has already visited the beneficiary communities to conduct feasibility studies as part of the initial stages of the project.
The intervention is expected to significantly improve access to potable water in the affected communities and marks a major step in the Assembly’s efforts to improve the welfare of residents across the District.
Hon. Abubakar Sedik reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing development initiatives that address the pressing needs of the people and enhance the socio-economic growth of the Ahafo Ano South West District.
