The Ashanti Regional Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the introduction of extended service hours aimed at improving service delivery and reducing long queues at its offices.
The Ashanti Regional Manager, Jerry Dem Aflago, made the announcement during a media engagement following a staff and management clean-up exercise and public awareness walk through principal streets of Kumasi on May Day.
According to Mr. Aflago, the initiative forms part of broader reforms being rolled out by the DVLA’s Chief Executive Officer to enhance operational efficiency through onboarding, digitalisation, and extended service delivery.
He disclosed that the new service arrangement will take effect from Monday, June 4, 2026. Under the policy, regular office hours will run from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by extended service hours from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., offering clients greater flexibility to access DVLA services.
Mr. Aflago explained that the clean-up exercise and street walk were organised to create awareness of the new system and educate the public on its benefits. He noted that the outreach also provided an opportunity for the Authority to engage directly with clients and share details of ongoing reforms, including preparations toward the rollout of new vehicle number plates.
He further indicated that the DVLA will intensify its public education campaign through radio and other media platforms to ensure widespread awareness of the extended service hours. He assured the public that all services available during regular hours would equally be accessible during the extended period.
Touching on security arrangements, Mr. Aflago revealed that the Authority will adopt a largely cashless system in the evenings. “From 5:00 p.m., we will accept mostly electronic payments due to the risks associated with handling cash at night,” he stated.
He added that the DVLA is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service, particularly the Airport Police Command, to ensure adequate security for both staff and clients during the extended hours.
Mr. Aflago also emphasised the Authority’s commitment to maintaining a clean and safe working environment, noting that staff remain dedicated to upholding high standards of sanitation and customer service.
He urged the public to take full advantage of the extended hours system, stressing that it is designed to minimise delays, reduce congestion, and improve overall client experience at DVLA offices nationwide.
