The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin in the Western North Region, Stephen Ntow Morcher, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service and community development.

The prestigious honour was jointly awarded by Elohim Theological College and Seminary in collaboration with Apostolic University of the USA during a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries, traditional leaders, clergy, and stakeholders from various sectors.

According to the awarding institutions, the conferment was in acknowledgement of Mr. Morcher’s unwavering dedication to improving the socio-economic conditions of residents within the Aowin Municipality.

They highlighted his people-centred leadership approach, which has driven a number of practical and impactful development initiatives.

The institutions noted that his administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to grassroots development, particularly in areas that directly affect livelihoods, such as education, employment, and access to basic amenities.

They further commended his ability to translate policy into tangible outcomes, describing his leadership as “transformational and responsive to the needs of the people.”

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Morcher expressed profound gratitude to the institutions for the recognition, describing the award as both humbling and inspiring.

“This honour is not just for me, but for the entire people of Aowin who continue to support and believe in the vision of development,” he stated.
He emphasised that the doctorate serves as a renewed call to duty, urging him to intensify efforts toward advancing the welfare of constituents.

Commitment to Development Priorities
Reflecting on his tenure, the MCE outlined several key initiatives undertaken since assuming office. Prominent among these is the creation of employment opportunities for the youth, which he identified as a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.

Mr. Morcher also highlighted interventions in the education sector, including the distribution of laptops to students across the municipality. The initiative, he noted, is aimed at enhancing digital literacy and equipping young people with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

In addressing basic infrastructure needs, he pointed to the drilling of boreholes in several communities as a critical measure to improve access to potable water and alleviate longstanding water challenges faced by residents.

Underscoring the significance of the honorary doctorate, Mr. Morcher reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more development projects and improving living standards across the municipality.

He assured residents that his administration remains focused on inclusive growth and sustainable development, adding that the recognition would spur him to work even harder.

“This honour places a greater responsibility on me to deliver. I remain committed to serving diligently and ensuring that Aowin continues to witness meaningful progress,” he affirmed.

The recognition of Mr. Morcher adds to a growing list of public officials whose contributions to local governance and community development have been acknowledged on both national and international platforms.

Observers say such honours not only celebrate individual achievement but also draw attention to the importance of effective leadership at the local government level in driving national development.

As the Aowin Municipality continues its development trajectory, stakeholders remain hopeful that the renewed commitment from its leadership will translate into sustained progress and improved quality of life for its residents.
