The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has commended Ghanaian engineers for their expertise and dedication in resolving critical power challenges, while urging the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to intensify efforts toward delivering stable and reliable electricity across the country.
Speaking during a tour of ECG project sites in the Ashanti Region on Friday, Dr. Jinapor expressed confidence in the technical capabilities of local engineers, describing their recent performance at the Akosombo hydroelectric facility as a remarkable demonstration of Ghanaian innovation and competence.
According to the minister, engineers exceeded expectations by resolving a major technical problem at the facility within five days, despite earlier projections that the repair works would take up to six months.
“I have no doubt about Ghanaian technology and engineers. Look at what happened at Akosombo, originally it was supposed to take six months but you fixed the problem in five days,” he stated.
Dr. Jinapor used the occasion to encourage officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana to remain committed to improving service delivery and maintaining operational efficiency within the power distribution sector.
He assured ECG management and staff of government’s continuous support, emphasizing that the ministry is prepared to collaborate closely with institutions in the energy sector to ensure consistent electricity supply for households, businesses and industries.
“I know you can deliver and so I urge you to deliver,” he told the officials.
The minister, however, issued a strong warning against any attempts to undermine the national power system, stressing that government would not tolerate acts of sabotage capable of disrupting electricity supply.
“So please give me your best and we will support you in any way we can, but let nobody sabotage the system. Don’t take me there, it will be very rough for both of us,” he cautioned.
Dr. Jinapor noted that stable electricity supply remains crucial to Ghana’s economic growth and industrial development, adding that government is committed to protecting critical energy infrastructure while improving efficiency across the sector.
The visit to the Ashanti Region forms part of ongoing inspections and stakeholder engagements by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition aimed at assessing power infrastructure projects and strengthening energy security nationwide.
