The Bosomtwi Girls STEM school in the Ashanti Region of Ghana has made Ghana proud after securing an impressive fourth position at the global Robofest Championship held in Michigan, USA.

The talented all-female robotics team earned the opportunity to represent Ghana after emerging winners of the 2026 Ghana Robofest Competition.

Their remarkable performance at the international level has drawn praise from stakeholders, parents and education enthusiasts across the country.

The global competition featured participants from 23 countries with over 60 teams competing from technologically advanced nations including the United States, China, Japan and Hong Kong.

Speaking to the media upon the team’s arrival at the Kumasi International Airport, the robotics instructor for Bosomtwi Girls STEM, Mr. Amoako Darko Kofi, expressed profound gratitude to authorities and institutions supporting robotics education in Ghana.

He particularly commended the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, for his immense support towards the team’s success.

Mr. Amoako praised the students for their outstanding determination and resilience despite competing against countries with advanced technological resources and sophisticated equipment.

According to him, Bosomtwi Girls STEM managed to secure fourth place in the Time Trial World Robofest Championship Bottle Sumo Category with limited resources, a feat he described as extraordinary.
He therefore appealed to government and other stakeholders to support the school with modern technological equipment to enable the students achieve even greater success in future international competitions, particularly the upcoming World Robot Olympiad (WRO).
Mr. Amoako further disclosed that although the Ghanaian team reached the semi-final stage before being eliminated by Hong Kong, the students received scholarship offers worth $30,000 each from Lawrence Technological University in the United States to further their education after completing Senior High School.
A member of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Mr. Isaac Adom, whose daughter Eugenia Nana Adom captained the team, congratulated the students for their remarkable achievement and assured them of the PTA’s continuous support in future competitions.
The team leader, Eugenia Nana Adom, expressed excitement and pride over the team’s performance on the global stage.
She encouraged young girls across the country to reject the notion that science and technology are difficult subjects for females.
According to her, women are equally capable of excelling in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and can even outperform their male counterparts when given the opportunity.
Eugenia assured Ghanaians that the team remains determined and optimistic about winning top honours in future robotics competitions later this year.
