12 Killed in Fatal Accident at Akomadan; Two in Critical Condition

A devastating road accident at Akomadan in the Offinso North District in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of twelve people, leaving two others in critical condition.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, involved a commercial passenger vehicle and a cargo truck, resulting in multiple fatalities and severe injuries. Eyewitnesses described the crash as horrific, with emergency responders and residents rushing to the scene to rescue survivors.

The injured victims were immediately transported to the Nkekaasu Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where two persons are currently receiving intensive care.

Bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nkekaasu Government Hospital morgue pending identification and preservation.
Speaking after the incident, Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, a gynaecologist at the facility, appealed to the general public to assist authorities in identifying the victims to enable their families to be contacted.

The accident has thrown the Akomadan community into mourning, with many residents expressing concern over increasing road crashes on major highways in the area.

Authorities are yet to disclose the exact cause of the accident, while investigations remain ongoing. Police and road safety officials are expected to intensify public education and enforcement measures to help reduce the growing rate of road accidents across the country.
