The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, on Friday joined hundreds of Muslims at the Kumasi Central Mosque to observe this year’s Eid al-Adha prayers, in a strong demonstration of religious harmony, unity, and national solidarity.

The colourful gathering brought together Islamic clerics, traditional leaders, government officials, and members of the Muslim community from across the Ashanti Region to commemorate the sacred Islamic festival, which symbolizes sacrifice, obedience, faith, and compassion.
Dr. Amoakohene attended the prayers alongside members of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Dr. Ben Abdullah, Presidential Staffer Mr. Isham Alhassan, and Council of State Member Mr. Yaw Obimpeh.
Addressing the gathering after the prayers, the Regional Minister emphasized the significance of Eid al-Adha as a period of spiritual reflection and moral renewal, stressing that the values associated with the celebration are essential for national progress and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
According to him, Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of the virtues of sacrifice, obedience, compassion, tolerance, and unity, principles that are necessary for building a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.
Dr. Amoakohene noted that Ghana’s peace and stability continue to depend largely on the ability of its people to live together in mutual respect regardless of religious, political, or ethnic differences. He therefore urged Ghanaians to use the occasion to promote harmony and deepen the spirit of national cohesion.

He further commended the Muslim community in the Ashanti Region for their continuous contributions toward peace, education, and socio-economic development, describing them as an important pillar in Ghana’s democratic and developmental journey.

The Minister also assured the Muslim community of government’s commitment to inclusive governance and equal opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of religious background. He encouraged the youth to embrace discipline, hard work, and patriotism while avoiding activities that could threaten national peace and security.

The Eid prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque witnessed a strong atmosphere of unity and spirituality, as worshippers offered prayers for peace, progress, and prosperity for the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole.

Special prayers were also offered for national leaders, the security services, and the continued stability of the country.

In a message shared after the event, Dr. Amoakohene extended warm wishes to Muslims across the country and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the Muslim Ummah, the Ashanti Region, and Ghana.

“Eid reminds us of the values of sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and unity, principles that are essential for national development and peaceful coexistence,” he stated.

The celebration forms part of nationwide Eid al-Adha observances by Muslims, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command, an act regarded as one of the greatest demonstrations of faith in Islam.
