The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has restated his unwavering commitment to protect all lands belonging to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He declared that not a single parcel would be lost to encroachment under his reign.

Speaking at the launch of KNUST’s 75th Anniversary on June 24, 2026, at the Great Hall, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool and Chancellor of the university stated emphatically that he is the sole custodian of the school’s land.

“Let me state clearly here and again, no Abusuapanin can claim ownership of KNUST land.”

“Any Abusuapanin or whoever goes to court to claim ownership of KNUST land is wasting his time and resources,” the Asantehene reiterated.

Over the years, KNUST has faced challenges from encroachers, some of whom have taken legal action against it over land ownership.

The Asantehene also expressed concern about occasional flooding on parts of the campus, attributing it to engineering gaps and improper waste disposal.

He urged engineers and the university community to help address the flooding. “I believe it has much to do with engineering. We should also step up efforts to educate our people on waste management. We need an attitudinal change to confront the flooding challenge head-on,” Otumfuo stated.

KNUST launched its 75th anniversary to mark its milestone of academic excellence, sharpening skills, and shaping thousands of lives.

The theme for the celebration, “From Excellence to Eminence,” demonstrates the school’s contributions to people’s lives and national development, according to soon-to-retire Vice-Chancellor Professor Rita Akosua Dickson.

She paid glowing tribute to Asanteman, past vice-chancellors, past and present staff, alumni, and other stakeholders for their invaluable contribution to the forward march of the university.

A book entitled “70 Years of Global Impact”, documenting the evolution of the school, infrastructural transformation, achievements, and acknowledgement of outstanding alumni, among other highlights, was unveiled.

The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including traditional leaders, political leaders, government officials, and alumni.

The first 10 copies were autographed by the Asantehene, with the first copy purchased for GH¢1 million by the Asanteman Council.
