KMA Announces Two-Day Sanitation Exercise; Businesses to Close

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced a two-day sanitation exercise across the metropolis, directing businesses, markets and public institutions to suspend operations during designated periods to facilitate a major clean-up.

A public notice issued by the Assembly said the exercise forms part of the Government’s nationwide sanitation campaign scheduled for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to the notice, all private and public institutions, including shops, offices and markets, will undertake clean-up activities within their operational areas and surroundings from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

During the exercise, all affected establishments are expected to remain closed until the clean-up is completed.
The Assembly further announced that a general clean-up exercise will take place across the Kumasi metropolis on Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

It identified Alabar, Boss FM to Otumfuo Roundabout, Asem Astroturf, Yalewa Zongo and M/A Zion School, Asafo as some of the key locations earmarked for intensive sanitation activities.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise, the KMA directed that all trading and commercial activities within the Central Business District remain suspended until the clean-up exercise ends on Saturday.

The notice also stated that there would be no vehicular movement for commercial vehicles during the period of the exercise on Saturday.

The Assembly appealed to residents to actively participate in the exercise to improve environmental cleanliness and public health.

The public notice, dated July 9, 2026, was issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and urged all residents to support the initiative to make the sanitation campaign a success.
