The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), under the government’s flagship Mahama Cares initiative, has secured a major boost in its efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare delivery, following a landmark partnership with KGL Group and the KGL Foundation to establish a state-of-the-art diagnostic centre at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).
The ambitious project, which moves beyond the initial appeal for modern diagnostic equipment, will see the construction of a fully equipped diagnostic facility designed to provide comprehensive specialist imaging services under one roof.
The centre will be fitted with advanced medical technologies, including a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, Mammography unit, Digital X-ray machine and a Fluoroscopy machine, significantly enhancing the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities.
The development follows an appeal made by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on February 5 this year to Corporate Ghana to support the retooling of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital with modern diagnostic equipment.
Responding to the call, KGL Group, together with the KGL Foundation, not only pledged support but committed to financing the construction of an entirely new diagnostic centre, demonstrating what stakeholders have described as an unprecedented level of corporate commitment to Ghana’s healthcare sector.
The project officially entered its implementation phase after the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, and the Chief Executive Officer of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, led a joint delegation on a site inspection at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
The inspection marked the commencement of work on what is expected to become one of the country’s most advanced public-sector diagnostic facilities.
When completed, the centre is expected to transform specialist diagnostic services at Ridge Hospital by enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis of complex medical conditions while reducing waiting times for patients.
The facility will also expand access to critical imaging services for thousands of Ghanaians who depend on the hospital for specialised healthcare.
Officials believe the investment will strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure and improve the quality of medical care delivered at one of Ghana’s leading referral hospitals.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund expressed profound appreciation to KGL Group for its exceptional commitment, describing the partnership as a shining example of the impact that can be achieved when government and the private sector collaborate to improve healthcare delivery.
According to the Fund, the initiative reflects the vision of the Mahama Cares programme, which seeks to improve access to quality healthcare through strategic partnerships and sustainable investments in modern medical infrastructure.
The partnership is expected to serve as a model for future collaborations between Corporate Ghana and government institutions aimed at transforming the nation’s healthcare system and improving the lives of citizens.
