Residents of the Tano South Municipality in the Ahafo Region are set to enjoy improved access to vehicle registration, licensing and road safety services following the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a permanent office for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Bechem.
The project marks a significant step in government’s efforts to decentralise public service delivery and bring essential services closer to the people.
The sod was cut by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano South, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, together with the Chief Executive of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, and traditional authorities.
When completed, the modern facility will provide a full range of DVLA services, including driver’s licence issuance and renewal, vehicle registration, roadworthiness inspections and other regulatory services, eliminating the need for residents to travel long distances to access such services.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong described the project as a major development milestone for the municipality, noting that it would enhance service delivery while promoting road safety and convenience for motorists.
He stated that the establishment of the permanent office would also create employment opportunities, reduce transportation costs for residents, increase internally generated revenue and contribute to the socio-economic development of Tano South.
The MCE expressed gratitude to John Dramani Mahama, the Tano South MP, Hon. Charles Asiedu, and the management of the DVLA for supporting the initiative and advancing government’s decentralisation agenda.
He assured the contractors and stakeholders of the full cooperation of the people of Tano South to ensure the successful and timely completion of the project.
The new DVLA office is expected to improve access to essential transport-related services and strengthen regulatory compliance within the municipality and surrounding communities.
