The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and constructive political engagement following a high-level meeting with the Flag Bearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, Henry Herbert Lartey, and his delegation.
The meeting, held yesterday at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi, focused on a number of critical national issues, including the government’s position on the Constitutional Review recommendations, the strengthening of Ghana’s multiparty democratic system, decentralized governance, and the GCPP’s policy proposal on Domestication.
According to Dr. Amoakohene, the discussions were cordial, productive and reflected the shared commitment of both parties to Ghana’s democratic development and national progress.
He noted that constitutional reforms remain vital in ensuring that Ghana’s democratic institutions continue to evolve to meet the aspirations of citizens while strengthening accountability, transparency and effective governance.
The Regional Minister stressed that decentralization remains one of the key pillars of national development, explaining that empowering local authorities with greater resources and decision-making responsibilities would accelerate development and improve service delivery across the country.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the GCPP delegation to outline its Domestication policy, which seeks to promote greater local participation in Ghana’s economy and encourage the utilization of local resources and expertise for national development.
Dr. Amoakohene used the occasion to brief the delegation on the numerous development initiatives being undertaken by the government under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama in the Ashanti Region.
He highlighted the government’s ongoing and planned interventions aimed at improving road infrastructure, expanding access to quality healthcare and education, creating employment opportunities, enhancing public services and improving the overall living conditions of residents.
According to him, the government remains committed to fulfilling the development promises made to the people of the Ashanti Region and ensuring that every community benefits from ongoing national development programmes.
He emphasized that sustained investment in infrastructure, social services and economic opportunities would significantly contribute to the region’s growth while supporting the country’s broader development agenda.
Dr. Amoakohene further underscored the importance of dialogue among political parties irrespective of ideological differences, stating that such engagements help strengthen democratic governance and promote peaceful political coexistence.
He noted that building consensus on matters of national importance is essential for sustaining Ghana’s democratic credentials and ensuring inclusive development.
The Regional Minister described the meeting as another demonstration of the government’s openness to engaging all political stakeholders in pursuit of the national interest.
He expressed confidence that continuous dialogue between government and political parties would foster greater understanding, encourage collaboration and contribute to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous Ghana.
Mr. Henry Herbert Lartey and his delegation were commended for the visit, which the Regional Minister described as a positive step toward promoting issue-based politics and strengthening Ghana’s democratic tradition.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to maintaining open channels of communication and working collectively to advance policies and initiatives that will improve the welfare of Ghanaians and accelerate national development.
