Prioritise Blood Clot Prevention — PIWAK CEO Urges the Public

The Chief Executive Officer of PIWAK Natural Health, producers of the 3P Garlic Mixture, Dr. Prince Nelson Mortoti, has called on Ghanaians to make the prevention of blood clots a health priority, stressing that early preventive measures, healthy lifestyle choices and regular medical screening can significantly reduce the risk of life-threatening cardiovascular complications.

According to him, cardiovascular diseases remain among the leading causes of illness and death globally, with blood clot-related conditions accounting for a significant number of emergency medical cases each year.

He noted that although blood clotting is an essential biological process that helps the body stop excessive bleeding following an injury, clots that form inside blood vessels without a corresponding injury can obstruct blood circulation and deprive vital organs of oxygen and nutrients.

Dr. Mortoti explained that when blood flow to the brain is blocked, it can result in a stroke, while a clot that obstructs blood supply to the heart may trigger a heart attack. Similarly, blood clots that develop in the deep veins of the legs—a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT)—can travel to the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism, a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.

He stated that several lifestyle and health conditions increase the likelihood of abnormal blood clot formation.

These include prolonged sitting or inactivity, obesity, smoking, uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated cholesterol levels, advancing age and a family history of cardiovascular disease.

“The good news is that many of these risk factors can be managed through healthy lifestyle choices and early medical intervention,” he said.

Dr. Mortoti therefore encouraged the public to engage in regular physical activity, maintain a healthy body weight, consume balanced diets rich in fruits and vegetables, reduce excessive intake of fatty and processed foods, drink sufficient water daily, avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and undergo periodic medical examinations to monitor blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

He also urged office workers, long-distance drivers and individuals who spend extended periods sitting to take regular breaks, stretch their legs and remain physically active to improve blood circulation.

Touching on the role of natural herbal products in promoting wellness, Dr. Mortoti said PIWAK Natural Health remains committed to producing high-quality herbal formulations that support healthy living. He explained that the company’s flagship product, the 3P Garlic Mixture, is produced from carefully processed garlic, a plant that has been widely studied for its naturally occurring compounds, including allicin, which researchers have associated with supporting healthy blood circulation and overall cardiovascular wellness when combined with healthy lifestyle practices.

He said many consumers are increasingly embracing natural products as part of their broader wellness routines and encouraged the public to seek quality-assured herbal products from reputable manufacturers.

Dr. Mortoti, however, emphasised that herbal products should complement—not replace—professional medical care, particularly for individuals with diagnosed cardiovascular conditions or those taking prescribed medications. He advised anyone using blood-thinning medicines or living with chronic health conditions to consult qualified healthcare professionals before introducing herbal supplements into their routine.

He further cautioned the public not to ignore warning signs that may indicate the presence of dangerous blood clots. Symptoms such as sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, persistent swelling or pain in the legs, severe headaches, dizziness, unexplained weakness or numbness on one side of the body require urgent medical evaluation.

According to him, prompt diagnosis and treatment can prevent serious complications and improve survival outcomes.

Dr. Mortoti reaffirmed PIWAK Natural Health’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare through continuous public education, responsible herbal medicine production and awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles among Ghanaians.

He appealed to the public to take proactive steps towards protecting their cardiovascular health, stressing that prevention remains one of the most effective ways of reducing the burden of heart disease and blood clot-related complications.

“Healthy living begins with informed choices. By adopting healthier habits, seeking timely medical advice and making prevention a priority, individuals can significantly improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of preventable cardiovascular diseases,” he stated.
