A 27-year-old man identified as Yussif has been arrested by the Nkawie Divisional Highway Operations Team for allegedly smuggling Indian hemp (wee).
The arrest was made around 11:00 pm on the Hiakose road,near Manso Nkwanta, during a routine highway patrol operation.
The operation was led by ASP Noah Yakpa, head of the Nkawie Divisional Highway Operations Team.
According to police sources, the suspect was found with a baton (parcel) of suspected wee concealed on him while traveling along the stretch.
He was immediately apprehended and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The exhibit has been retained for further examination.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and other criminal activities on highways within the Ashanti Region, especially at night.
Suspect Yussif is expected to be arraigned before court after preliminary investigations.
