Bridging the gap between university lecture halls and the fast-moving tech sector just got a major boost in Ghana.

Telecom leader MTN Ghana has officially teamed up with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The collaboration focuses on three key goals: advancing homegrown AI research, building career pathways for graduates, and promoting women in STEM.

Hands-on Industry Experience:
Students gain access to internships, practical digital projects, and structured graduate recruitment pathways.

Direct AI Integration:
MTN’s Digital Analytics and Monetisation team will involve students in live AI initiatives and host guest lectures by industry veterans.

Scholarships for Excellence & Diversity: MTN is funding awards for KNUST’s top three Computer Science graduates, with a special award reserved for the top female graduate.

Tackling the Brain Drain:
By providing high-value local opportunities, the initiative encourages top tech talent to remain and build solutions in Ghana.

“We want to build solutions for Africa, for ourselves, for Ghana to solve our own problems,” explained Kwame Adu Manu, Senior Manager for Digital Analytics and Monetisation at MTN Ghana.

KNUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Christian Agyare emphasized that the partnership enables faculty and students to apply academic research directly to real-world corporate challenges.

A joint Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework will oversee the initiative to measure impact over time.
