After touring various MMDAs across the country assessing the performance of the four year term of office of the New Patriotic Party and then showcased them on the front page and center spread of our newspaper, it came to conclusion that most of the local representatives(MMDCEs) of the Nana Addo government performed creditably which fetched victory for the NPP in the 2020 general elections.
These outstanding MMDCES need to be retained in their various offices if indeed Nana Addo wants to score more of political points and make history in governance .
They are:Hon.Osei Assibey Antwi,Mayor-Kumasi Metropolis,Ashanti region,Hon.Samuel Adu Gyamfi,MCE-Aowin municipal , Western North Region,Hon.Samuel Addai Agyekum,DCE,Sekyere Kumawu District-Ashanti,Hon.Catherine Reckling,DCE-Sekyere South-Ashanti, Hon.Alfred Amoah,MCE ,Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai -Western North,Hon.Isaac Dasmani,MCE,Prestea Huni valley-Western region,Hon.Richmond Agyenim Boateng,MCE-Kwadaso , Ashanti.
Others included ;Hon. Yaw Owusu Addo, Municipal Chief Executive, Kwahu West Municipal Assembly-Eastern region and Hon.Susan Akomeah ,MCE ,Asante Akim Central,also in Ashanti region.
Notable among them who will be the topic under discussion today is the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly,Hon.Osei Assibey Antwi(Most performed mayor,2020 by Pan African Heroes Foundation).
Achievement of other equally performed MMDCEs would be published as soon as possible.
This gentleman(Kumasi mayor) aside his good human relation ethics ,can never be discredited when it comes to managing the affairs of the office he occupies (Kumasi Metropolis.)
Upon touring the metropolis with our district focus team,it was indicated that in furtherance of the achievement of the sustainable development goals and the development of Kumasi into a resilient city,the mayor together with the assembly embarked on the implementation of some selected projects and programmes in line with the guidelines of the National Development Planning Commission and the assembly’s goals.
We got to Know further that , during his tenure of office,that is 2017 to 2020, the development planning unit coordinated the implementation of various projects and programes which cuts across the various sectors of the economy including health, Education, Security, Sanitation etc.
During the period under review,KMA , together with the affable mayor,the assembly embarked on a total of 61 physical projects .
Of the 61 projects,16 were under education,4 under transport,2 under health,7 under Sanitation,5 under security,1 in recreation,3 in governance ,4 in economic projects and 19 road projects of which most of them were completed.
Another important thing the Punch district focus team looked at was the infrastructure for poverty eradication program (IPEP).
The Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme which was a new development approach initiated by the Nana Addo led NPP government aimed at providing basic socio-economic infrastructure at the constituency level.
This programme is financed from the $1 million to a constituency fund which is disbursed by the Development Authorities under the ministry of Special Development Initiatives .
Under this programme,KMA , through the good leadership of Mr.Assibey Antwi,was provided with 74 different infrastructure projects across all the five constituencies at the total cost of GHC23,925,571, excluding the five ambulances provided in use.
Just to mention but a few of his tremendous performance, various international and local organizations have recognized his work and accorded him with numerous awards.
One of the awards which worth celebrating is the Pan African Republic Honorary Award which adjudged him as the most performed metro chief executive under Nana Addo in the year 2020.
Aside this ,the darling mayor,as accorded him by various Media practitioners in the region and afar has also won for himself an outstanding MCE for the year ,2020.
This award was in recognition of his support for promoting education by the National Students Award Secretariats of the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science and Technology.
Again,the almighty Manhyia palace,the official seat of Asantehene presented a certificate of appreciation to him in recognition of the key role he played during the burial of the late Asantehemaa ,Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
He has also won for himself sanitation and tourism challenge awards.
Base on the forgoing assessment for just a term of office without mentioning most of his achievement in this write -up,it would be very prudent for president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to retain him as the mayor to see to the completion of his ongoing projects and those initiated projects.
