Afigya KWABRE South District Donates   One Thousand Coconut Seedlings To Famers

The Afigya KWABRE South District in the Ashanti Region has donated over one thousand coconut seedlings to famers aiming at improving the level of Agriculture in the District.
The district had already distributed piglets, oil palm seedlings,rice , among others to farmers in the district and  is yet to furnish farmers with pawpaw seedlings for cultivation.
Speaking at a short ceremony held in front of the District Assembly to officially hand over the seedlings to famers,Hon.Adu Poku Christian, DCE for the area noted that,the aim for the gathering was to donate seedlings to their perspective farmers who are willing to cultivate coconut.
He said ,the government has drawn various interventions and programs to help farmers grow for the country to become self-sufficient.
He revealed that ,they have done something under Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD).
Also, the government has done something under Planting for food and jobs and alot of programs to help develop the Agric sector.
According to him, the Assembly thought it wise that it’s about time the District enhance the farmers capacity by giving them coconut seedlings so that they plant and get the benefits thereof.
He revealed that,one thousand pieces of seedlings is to be handed over today.
APC, affectionately called,made it known that, authorities of the Assembly will monitor the farmers and make sure that all the problems that will emanate as a result of their farming activities in regards to the coconut are taken off by making sure always the Agric department is on them showing them the ways and means by which they can cultivate the coconut to their benefits.
He said, the move has become very necessary because Ghana is developing so the Agric sector has much more role to play in making sure that large quantity of food is produced to contain the growing population.
As a result of the foregoing character,the government through the ministry of local government has come together with the  Food and Agriculture ministry to make sure that farmers get the needed support so that the Country will be self-sufficient.
On his part,Mr.Peter Kwame Amoako, District Agric Director , said the government wants improvement in the Agric sector that’s why he has taken it upon himself  to encourage seedlings distribution to all farmers in the Country.
He advised farmers not to only center on cocoa cultivation but other crops that’s why the government is embarking on the project.
He appealed to farmers to make good use of the seedlings to enjoy it’s needed benefits.
