The people of Ntranoa, a community in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Constituency, are crying out for justice and accountability. Their Community Day Senior High School, initiated by the John Dramani Mahama administration, has been abandoned for eight long years, leaving the community with a sense of neglect and frustration.
Hon. Samuel Atta Mills, Member of Parliament for KEEA Constituency, has condemned the abandonment of the project, describing it as an injustice and a waste of public resources. He expressed deep concern over the failure of the immediate past government to complete the project, despite the pressing infrastructure challenges facing many Senior High Schools in Ghana.
The numbers are staggering. The initial cost of the project was approximately GHS 9 million, with cement priced at GHS 27 per bag at the time. Today, with cement costing GHS 105 per bag, the project will require revaluation, leading to a significantly higher completion cost.
Nana Kwaku Ntsin V, Chief of Ntranoa, echoed the sentiments of Hon. Atta Mills, expressing his frustration over the eight-year delay in completing the school. “The completion of this project would have been a game-changer for our people,” he said.
The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Samuel Kwaku Boaheng, also emphasized the urgent need to complete the school, which would serve ten communities, four prison facilities, and two major hospitals within the vicinity.
The community is calling on the government to prioritize the completion of the project, which would provide educational access for children in the area who cannot afford to travel long distances for schooling.
As the government moves to address the challenges facing the education sector, the people of Ntranoa wait with bated breath, hoping that their pleas will be heard and their school will finally be completed.
*The Way Forward*
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has been briefed on the current state of the facility, and the community is hopeful that he will take immediate action to facilitate the resumption and completion of the project.
As the government works to address the challenges facing the education sector, it is essential that they prioritize projects like the Ntranoa Community Day Senior High School, which have the potential to transform the lives of communities and provide opportunities for future generations.
The people of Ntranoa deserve justice, and it is time for the government to take action and complete the abandoned school project.
