The President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Pearl Patricia Ankrah, has made history by becoming the first woman to be officially confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

The confirmation took place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Methodist Church auditorium in Kodie, the district capital.

Patricia Ankrah secured 36 “Yes” votes out of a total of 39 ballots cast, surpassing the two-thirds threshold required.

This overwhelming support was met with celebrations from both party faithfuls of the NDC and NPP, as well as stakeholders who filled the auditorium.

Earlier, a new Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Gyasi Danso, had been elected and sworn in by the district Circuit Court judge, Her Ladyship Magdelene Thompson, to supervise the event. Hon. Danso polled 38 “Yes” votes out of 39 votes cast.

In her acceptance speech, the DCE-elect expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her and called for a united front and setting a good reputation as a hallmark for total development. She emphasized that a district seeking development cannot succeed with a divisive front and that inclusive leadership and collective ideas are essential tools for the progress of the district.

Hon. Ankrah noted that her endorsement has opened a new chapter in the political history of the district, stressing that the area can boast of a female MP, female DCE, and a female Coordinating Director. She pledged to push the President’s resetting agenda towards the district’s development.

The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Damata Ama Appianinaa Salam, commended the Assembly members for the overwhelming endorsement, pointing out that it was a wake-up call for the women in the district to strive to attain the role of able leadership. She called for fair representation and equity, urging men to continue to support and encourage women as men serve as women’s source of motivation.
