Anglo Gold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine, through its Community Trust Fund, has constructed and commissioned a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHP) compound with ancillary facilities and nurses’ quarters at Mammiriwa No. 2 in the Obuasi Municipal of the Ashanti Region. This project marks a significant milestone in providing access to quality healthcare delivery for the communities within its reach.
The AGA Obuasi Mine’s Community Trust Fund was established in 2012 to support local initiatives in health, water, sanitation and hygiene, education, and skills development for the youth. Since its inception, AGA has contributed a total of GHC 22,787,550.64 to the Trust Fund towards impactful projects and initiatives. The company’s commitment to community development is reflected in its purpose statement, “mining to empower people and advance societies.”
During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager at AGA Obuasi Mine, highlighted the significance of the project. Deputizing for the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Kwadwo Asamoah Nyarko Jectey, Medical Superintendent of the Obuasi Government Hospital, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the management of AGA for the magnificent edifice. He urged the community to take proper care of the facility and maintain it, emphasizing that maintenance begins with its proper usage.
Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, described the ceremony as not just a commissioning of a facility but a commissioning of a beacon of hope and a symbol of improved healthcare. He congratulated all stakeholders whose cooperation and dedication made the project possible.
The CHP compound and nurses’ quarters are expected to improve healthcare delivery in the municipality, providing a safe and healthy environment for nurses and ensuring patients receive quality healthcare. The facility is likely to help reduce unmet healthcare needs and maternal mortality in the area .
