The Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has presented 500 motorbikes to agricultural extension officers to enhance extension services and boost food production.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap in the sector, where Ghana currently has a ratio of 1,500 farmers per extension officer, far exceeding the international standard.
Addressing Food Import Challenges, he said Ghana spends over $2 billion annually on food imports, and despite a decrease in food inflation from 61% to 32%, challenges persist.
According to him,Ghana Coordinators and equipping extension officers to effectively reach farmers, especially in rural areas.
The Minister urged officers to utilize the motorbikes responsibly, ensuring rural farmers benefit directly from government interventions. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reform the agricultural sector and increase food production in Ghana.
