The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has suggested that President Nana Akufo-Addo appears to have accepted the likelihood of his New Patriotic Party (NPP) losing the upcoming December 7 elections.

Mahama shared this perspective during a campaign rally in Biakoye, located in the Oti Region on Monday, November 4, as part of his nationwide tour aimed at securing support from the electorate.

According to Mahama, recent statements from President Akufo-Addo indicate a shift in tone, implying that the President is preparing for the possibility of handing over power to the NDC.

During his remarks, Mahama referenced Akufo-Addo’s recent commitment to a peaceful transition, where the President assured Ghanaians that he would hand over power to whoever wins the election.

For Mahama, Akufo-Addo’s pledge signals more than just a democratic assurance; he views it as an implicit acknowledgement that the ruling NPP may be facing defeat.

“The reason you must vote for the NDC is that we will go after all who have stolen from the public purse. Dr Bawumia cannot hold them accountable. That was why he said he would not hand over power to me.

“But recently, I heard him say he will hand over power to whoever wins. It is just because he knows that the NPP is about to lose the election. He knows that John Dramani Mahama is coming back to the Jubilee House.”
