Hon. Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central Constituency in the Western Region and founder of Golden Empire Legacy Ltd (GELL), is steadily cementing her place as one of Ghana’s most transformative figures in business, politics, and philanthropy.

As a pioneering entrepreneur in Ghana’s mining sector, Hon. Gyan Cudjoe has broken barriers in a traditionally male-dominated industry, championing sustainable and ethical gold production. Under her leadership, GELL has emerged as one of the country’s largest licensed gold exporting firms, playing a critical role in positioning Ghana as a growing force in responsible and environmentally conscious mining.

Since 2019, the company has attracted over US$400 million in both local and foreign investments, significantly boosting Ghana’s participation in the global gold trade. Beyond financial growth, GELL’s operations have created thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly within mining communities, contributing to livelihoods and local economic development.

Her leadership philosophy anchored in transparency, innovation, and social responsibility aligns with key global development priorities, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through her work, she continues to promote poverty reduction, gender equality, decent work, industrial growth, and climate-conscious practices within the extractive sector.
In Parliament, Hon. Gyan Cudjoe has also made history as the first woman elected to represent Amenfi Central Constituency, securing a record-breaking electoral victory.

She serves on the Parliamentary Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, where she contributes to shaping policies on food security, agribusiness, and the sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry. Her broader legislative focus includes grassroots empowerment, inclusive governance, and national development reforms.
Her commitment to social impact is further demonstrated through the Joana Gyan Foundation, which has become a lifeline for many underserved communities. The foundation has awarded thousands of scholarships, supported the construction and rehabilitation of educational facilities, provided access to clean water through borehole projects, and funded critical healthcare interventions across the country.
Beyond her corporate and parliamentary roles, Hon. Gyan Cudjoe holds several influential leadership positions. She serves as National Coordinator of the NDC Women’s Working Committee, Patron of both the NDC Disability Desk and the Western Region Women’s Committee, and sits on international advisory platforms such as the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. She is also a member of the Institute of Directors in the United Kingdom and a Board Member of Samartex Football Club.

Her exceptional contributions have earned her widespread recognition on both local and global stages. Among her numerous accolades are the Outstanding Female Miner Award at the Ghana Women Awards (2025), the Global Entrepreneurs Award at the Global Business Achievers Forum in Dubai (2023), and the Ghana Mining Industry Leadership Award by the Ghana Chamber of Mines (2021), alongside several other honours celebrating her excellence in leadership, business, and humanitarian service.

Hon. Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s journey reflects resilience, innovation, and a commitment to inclusive growth. As a trailblazer in mining and a champion for social transformation, she continues to inspire a new generation of leaders while shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for Ghana and the African continent.
