The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has embarked on a significant initiative to empower adolescents and improve their sexual and reproductive health and well-being.
This effort is a result of a collaborative partnership with prominent institutions including the Ghana AIDS Commission, Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Youth Development Authority, Ghana Health Services, and Proactif global , among others.
A pivotal meeting was held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, bringing together representatives from these institutions to strategize on enhancing adolescent health outcomes in the region.
Madam Beatrice Kwarteng Osei Asare, Head of Planning at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, spoke to the media about the council’s commitment to this cause.
According to her, the engagement with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) played a crucial role in shaping this initiative.
Following UNFPA’s visit to the council, a decision was made to finance efforts aimed at educating adolescents in the Ashanti Region on sexual and reproductive health.
The project is set to be implemented in ten selected districts within the Ashanti Region, which includes Adansi Asokwa, Asokore Mampong, Atwima Nwabiagya South, Kwadaso, Adansi Akrofuom, Ahafo Ano South East, Bosomefreho, Adansi South, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Sekyere Central.
The initiative is expected to be completed by November this year.
Madam Osei Asare emphasized the importance of addressing the sexual health needs of adolescents, highlighting the involvement of key institutions responsible for this aspect of youth development.
The project implementation partners(Ghana Health Service, NYA, and Gender department) will collaborate with DOVVSU, Ghana Aides commission,and proactif global among others.
This underscores the comprehensive approach to tackling adolescent health challenges.
She revealed that,the ultimate aim is to empower adolescents with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, contributing to their overall well-being.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to regional development and youth empowerment.
By focusing on adolescent health, the council and its partners seek to positively impact the lives of young people in the region.
With funding support from UNFPA and collaboration among key stakeholders, the project is poised to make a tangible difference in the selected districts.
