The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asante Akim North Municipality in the Ashanti region , Hon. Sarah Amoakoaa, has officially cut sod for the commencement of construction works on a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound at Afrisrɛ, marking another significant milestone in the municipality’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare delivery.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held in the Afrisrɛ community , brought together traditional authorities, assembly members, health officials, opinion leaders, and residents, who gathered in a spirit of excitement and gratitude to witness what many described as a long-awaited intervention.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Sarah Amoakoaa emphasized that the construction of the CHPS Compound forms part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen primary healthcare systems, especially in rural and underserved communities.
According to the MCE, access to healthcare remains a critical priority for the Assembly, and the Afrisrɛ CHPS Compound is expected to serve as a major hub for basic medical services, maternal care, child welfare, and emergency response within the area.
“This project is not just a building. It represents hope, relief, and a commitment to ensuring that no citizen in Asante Akim North is left behind when it comes to healthcare,” she stated.
Residents of Afrisrɛ and surrounding communities have for years faced challenges accessing medical care, often traveling long distances to nearby towns for treatment. The new facility is expected to ease the burden, reduce travel time, and enhance timely healthcare delivery.
Community members expressed appreciation to the MCE and the government for responding to their needs, describing the project as transformational.
Hon. Amoakoaa reiterated her administration’s commitment to pursuing development projects that directly impact the lives of residents. She noted that healthcare infrastructure remains one of the key pillars of the Assembly’s development agenda.
She further assured the people that the project would be monitored closely to ensure it is completed on schedule and according to the required standards.
“We are determined to deliver projects that bring real benefits to our communities. This CHPS Compound will help improve health outcomes, especially for women, children, and the aged,” she added.
Traditional leaders present at the ceremony commended the Assembly for prioritizing Afrisrɛ in its health infrastructure expansion. They pledged their support and cooperation to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
They also appealed to residents to take ownership of the facility once completed, stressing the importance of protecting public projects for future generations.
The CHPS Compound, once completed, will provide essential services including outpatient care, antenatal and postnatal services, immunization programmes, health education, and accommodation for health personnel.
Health officials at the event noted that the facility will strengthen community-level healthcare and contribute significantly to achieving universal health coverage in the municipality.
A Step Toward a Healthier Municipality
The sod-cutting ceremony at Afrisrɛ stands as yet another demonstration of the Assembly’s resolve to improve living standards through accessible social services.
With the construction of the CHPS Compound underway, residents are hopeful that Afrisrɛ will soon experience enhanced healthcare delivery, reduced preventable deaths, and improved wellbeing for all.
