The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim North, Hon. Sarah Amoakoaa, has officially cut sod for the construction of a three-unit classroom block, a staff common room, and an ultramodern toilet facility at Nsonyameye in the Asante Akim North Municipality.

The project forms part of the municipality’s broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating a more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers in rural communities.

Speaking at a brief but colourful ceremony attended by traditional leaders, education officials, assembly members, community residents, and pupils, Hon. Amoakoaa described the initiative as a major step toward addressing longstanding challenges facing the community’s educational sector.

According to the MCE, the construction of the new facilities is aimed at reducing overcrowding in existing classrooms and ensuring that children in Nsonyameye have access to quality education under improved conditions.

She noted that government remains committed to strengthening basic education across the country through the provision of modern school infrastructure, especially in underserved communities.

“This project is not just about putting up buildings. It is about investing in the future of our children and ensuring that every child, regardless of where they live, has the opportunity to learn in a safe and comfortable environment,” Hon. Amoakoaa stated.

In addition to the classroom block, the project includes the construction of an ultramodern toilet facility, which is expected to significantly improve sanitation standards within the school and the wider community.

Hon. Sarah Amoakoaa emphasized that good sanitation is essential for effective teaching and learning, adding that the lack of proper toilet facilities in many schools has often contributed to health concerns and absenteeism among pupils.

“The provision of decent sanitary facilities is critical. It promotes hygiene, protects the dignity of our children, and enhances their overall well-being,” she said.

The project also features a staff common room, which will serve as a space for teachers to rest, prepare lessons, and hold meetings. The MCE noted that improving teacher welfare is key to enhancing educational outcomes.

“When teachers have the right environment and motivation, it reflects positively on the performance of pupils. This staff common room will support our hardworking teachers and encourage them to give off their best,” she added.

Traditional authorities and residents of Nsonyameye expressed gratitude to the Municipal Assembly and government for responding to their needs.

The chief of the area, in a remark during the ceremony, commended Hon. Amoakoaa for her dedication to development and pledged the community’s full support toward the successful completion of the project.
“We are happy that our voices have been heard. Education is the foundation of development, and this project will go a long way in transforming our community,” the chief said.

Hon. Amoakoaa urged the contractor to ensure quality work and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. She also appealed to community members to protect the project and cooperate fully to ensure smooth execution.

She reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to initiating more developmental projects in the municipality, particularly in education, health, water, and sanitation.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks another milestone in Asante Akim North’s development agenda, reflecting government’s determination to bridge the infrastructure gap between urban and rural schools.

With the construction of the new classroom block, staff common room, and modern toilet facility, pupils and teachers at Nsonyameye are expected to benefit from improved learning conditions that will enhance academic performance and overall educational delivery.
