The Ashanti Region is on the cusp of a major development boost with the commencement of the Airport City Project in Kumasi. The project, which was symbolically marked by a sod-cutting ceremony, is a visionary private sector-led initiative that promises to transform the region’s economic and social landscape.
The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, who had the honor of joining Nana Professor Oheneba, representing HRM Otumfour Osei Tutu II. The event was also graced by the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, members of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and other key stakeholders.
The Airport City Project is a bold initiative spearheaded by Mr. Stephen Yeboah, Mr. Kwabena Obeng, and their Turkish partners. The project will deliver a state-of-the-art Smart Community featuring innovative residential, commercial, and lifestyle infrastructure. This development is expected to not only boost the region’s economy but also provide modern amenities and services to its residents.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, in his remarks, congratulated the team for their initiative and reaffirmed the government’s full support for the project. He highlighted the government’s investor-friendly policies, including tax waivers, tax holidays, and infrastructure incentives, aimed at opening up the economy and deepening private sector participation.
The Airport City Project is particularly timely, given Ghana’s housing deficit, which is currently estimated at 1.8 million units. The Ashanti Region, being one of the most rapidly urbanizing zones, stands to benefit significantly from this project. With about 41% of households in the region living in rented properties, many of which lack modern infrastructure and security, this project represents a bold step towards bridging the housing gap.
Dr. Amoakohene called on all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially those from the Ashanti Region, to follow this example and invest in the region’s development. He emphasized the importance of homegrown investment in shaping the future of the region and encouraged everyone to come home and contribute to the region’s growth.
The Airport City Project is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in driving development. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and modern amenities, this project is set to transform the Ashanti Region’s economic and social landscape. As the project progresses, it is expected to create new opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards for the people of Ashanti.
