Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has made a clarion call to all miners in the region to bring their mining leases to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to ensure responsible mining practices.
This move is aimed at preventing mining in forest reserves and water bodies, as well as holding accountable those who fail to reclaim mined lands .
The minister emphasized that the region will take stern measures against miners who flout the rules, and to this end, a mining secretariat will be opened at the Regional Coordinating Council.
This secretariat will serve as a one-stop-shop for miners to submit their documents, enabling the region to track and monitor their activities effectively.
Dr. Amoakohene made this announcement during a joint operation with the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, at the Offin Shelter Belt Forest Reserve in the Atwima Mponua District.
This operation underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable mining practices.
The mining secretariat, which will begin operations very soon, will play a crucial role in ensuring that mining activities in the region are conducted in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.
Miners are urged to cooperate with the authorities and submit their documents to the secretariat to avoid any sanctions.
