The Operation Wear Your Face Mask is in full force in the Ashanti Region and violators of the law will be punished.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have arrested more than 200 persons in Kumasi.

The people were arrested this morning for failure to wear their nose masks a violation of Executive Instrument (EI 164).

In a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo signed Executive Instrument (EI 164) last year,2020 that criminalises the failure to wear nose masks in public.

The law states that those who are found guilty would be fined a minimum of GHC 12,000 or a maximum of GHC 60,000 or be sentenced to between 4 and 10 years in prison.

In line with enforcing the law, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has deployed personnel to the vintage streets of Kumasi, Ashanti Regional capital to ensure that all persons moving in and out, wear a face mask or are otherwise punished.

The offenders were arrested at Kejetia, Dr Mensah market, Adum and Pampaso respectively.

The operation according to the regional police command would compel people to wear their face mask; a step that will reduce the spread of pandemic coronavirus in the region.

The Ashanti Regional Command claims the arrest is a wake-up call to recalcitrant people who will violate the Executive Instrument (EI 164).

The Police revealed that Operation Wear Your Face Mask will continue every day to punish offenders of the Executive Instrument (EI 164).
