A New Patriotic Party (NPP) National First Vice Chairman hopeful, Kojo Bamba, has congratulated all newly elected constituency executives of the party and cautioned aspirants contesting the upcoming regional and national executive elections against using the name of the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to solicit votes.
According to Mr.Kojo Bamba, it is misleading and inappropriate for any aspirant to claim that Dr. Bawumia has endorsed his or her candidature or directed delegates to support a particular candidate in the party’s internal elections.
He urged delegates across the country to be vigilant and disregard anyone who approaches them claiming to be acting on behalf of the former Vice President.
“I want to congratulate all the newly elected constituency executives for their successful elections and wish them well in the discharge of their responsibilities.
At the same time, I wish to caution all aspirants seeking regional and national executive positions not to drag Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s name into their campaigns,” Mr. Bamba stated.
He maintained that Dr. Bawumia has no preferred candidates in the ongoing internal electoral process and remains committed to ensuring fairness and unity within the party.
Mr. Bamba expressed concern over reports that some aspirants are allegedly telling delegates they have held private meetings with Dr. Bawumia and have been instructed to campaign on his behalf.
He described such claims as false and intended to mislead delegates into believing they enjoy the backing of the former presidential candidate.
According to him, these tactics undermine the democratic principles of the NPP and have the potential to create unnecessary divisions within the party.
He therefore appealed to all aspirants to campaign based on their competence, vision and track record instead of using the names of senior party leaders to gain political advantage.
Mr. Bamba further disclosed that intelligence available to him suggests that some individuals are inviting delegates to meetings under the pretext that they have been mandated by Dr. Bawumia.
He insisted that Dr. Bawumia has not authorised any such meetings and urged delegates to verify any such invitation before honouring it.
He advised delegates who receive calls or messages claiming to be from Dr. Bawumia’s camp to immediately contact the official Bawumia campaign team for verification.
“This is the only way to avoid being deceived by people who seek to exploit Dr. Bawumia’s popularity for their personal political ambitions,” he said.
Mr. Bamba called on party members to uphold transparency, honesty and discipline throughout the internal election process, stressing that the unity of the NPP must remain the party’s foremost priority as it prepares for future political contests.
He also appealed to all contestants to conduct issue-based campaigns and respect the choices of delegates, saying peaceful and credible internal elections would strengthen the party ahead of future national elections.
