Bawumia’s Candidacy Under Fire: Concerned NPP Traders of Kumasi Say He Can’t Win in 2028

The Concerned NPP Traders of Kumasi are advocating for a change in the party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2028 elections, citing the poor performance of Dr. Alhaji Mahmud Bawumia in the 2024 elections.

They argue that Bawumia’s candidacy did not yield the expected results, particularly in the northern regions and among Islamic voters.

The group points to several key factors that led to the party’s defeat, including:

Loss of votes in key regions: The NPP lost significant votes in the northern regions, with Bawumia’s home region recording a minimal margin of victory.

Failure to win parliamentary seats: The party lost 58 parliamentary seats, including all seats in the Upper East and West regions.

Decline in votes among NPP Christians: Many NPP Christians did not vote, affecting the party’s fortunes in the polls.

Overall decline in votes: The party lost about 2.1 million votes nationwide compared to the 2020 polls.

The Concerned NPP Traders of Kumasi believe that Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy is not viable for the 2028 elections and that the party needs a new candidate to recapture power. They caution against imposing Bawumia on the party again, warning that this could lead to another defeat and potentially 12 years in opposition.
