The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, has called on Ghanaian students to become the next generation of job creators and innovators, rather than mere job seekers.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) Junior Chamber Initiative, a collaborative project between the GNCCI and the University of Ghana, Mr. Debrah emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in driving inclusive development.
The GNCCI Junior Chamber Initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical business experience, empowering students to become job creators. The initiative will provide students with the skills, networks, and platforms needed to contribute to Ghana’s economic transformation.
Mr. Debrah expressed concern over the alarming number of unemployed young Ghanaians, with 1.4 million youth unemployed, including 22.3% of tertiary graduates. He stressed that this initiative represents a strategic national intervention designed to address this issue.
The government will partner with the GNCCI Junior Chamber to facilitate exposure visits for students to successful local entrepreneurs, manufacturing sites, and the Office of the President. Mr. Debrah highlighted the government’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship through initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy Policy.
The Chief of Staff disclosed that the 24-Hour Economy is a strategic vision for Africa’s next industrial hub, designed to create opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship. He commended the University of Ghana and GNCCI for partnering on the initiative, which aligns with government programs like the Adwumawura Project.
Mr. Debrah urged policymakers to provide opportunities for young people to showcase their potential and contribute to the country’s economic growth. He emphasized that the future of Ghana’s economy lies in the hands of its youth, encouraging them to dream big and take action to achieve their goals.
The initiative offers a platform for students to connect, grow, and build value from the ground up. By empowering students to become job creators, the initiative has the potential to drive economic growth and development in Ghana.
