South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has described the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a “looting consortium” following the payment of some $2.6billion for the Accra Sky Train project.

In a Facebook post sighted by OnuaOnline, the lawmaker noted the “Sky Train Deal stinks to the highest heavens.”

He has indicated that Parliament was duped by the NPP government to sign the $2.6billion deal with the company, Africa Investor Group Holdings (AI Holdings Ltd)

The MP who is also a private legal practitioner revealed through his post that “AI Holdings Ltd is a South African company based in Gauteng, Johannesburg. It is said to be owned by one Dr. Hubert Danso, an alleged British National of Ghanaian origin. This Dr. Danso man is great at publishing his AI Magazine and Organising Events. That’s all. Nothing else.”

He continued that, the said Dr. Danso has “no track record in rail travels yet he is alleged to have teamed up with our government officials at Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund to actually pay a Nominal share value of $1 each for 10 ordinary shares and a whooping $999,999 each as premium value on the same shares in a company called AI Sky Train Consortium Holdings, set up as a special purpose vehicle in Mauritius (not in the home country, South Africa, of the parent company).”

“In Mauritius, this SPV is yet to be issued with any license to undertake the Sky Train Project and no feasibility studies has been done. However, as at the end of 31st December 2020, the AI Sky Train Consortium Holdings in Mauritius has declared operational losses. We are part owners and when a company makes a loss, the owner(s) bear the cost,” he added.

The agreement between the GIIF and AI Sky Train according to the MP was for the “design, finance, build & operate.”

Asking why government of Ghana could get involved in the GH₵24million (Cedi equivalence of the amount) deal, Mr. Dafeamekpor maintained that “this NPP government is a looting consortium.”
