Hon. Joseph Frimpong Bonsu, District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region has reclaimed abandoned illegal mining sites at Mankranso- Zongo,the District capital.
The abandoned site which has now been reclaimed by the workaholic DCE can be used for oil Palm plantation and among others.
According to him,the measures formed part of his plans to ensure that abandoned pits were reclaimed and planted seedlings that will generate income and provide job opportunities to the youth in the area.
‘It’s my plan to find a way to reclaim abandoned pits in the area and plant some seedlings on it to have a new vegetation in those places.
This will also help users in those areas to move with ease without any fear of falling into a pit.’Mr.Bonsu said.
He said,his plan was initiated following the renewed commitment by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo’s government fight against illegal mining in his second term in office.
The Affable DCE is poised to reclaim more abandoned illegal mining sites and called on Ghanaians especially those in his District to join hands in the fight against illegal mining and rather encourage responsible mining in Ghana.
