The youth and opinion leaders of Deduako Kodiekrom in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti region are up in arms against a private developer who they have accused of taking over the community ‘s basic school land

The youth also accused the chief of the community Nana Kofi Wusu 1 and the Municipal Assembly for having allowed the the private developer to have taken over the basic school land under the pretense of fencing the school.

The people have given the developer a staunch warning to halt development with immediate effect or the consequences could be dire.

Pouring out their anger at a massive demonstration embarked upon at Deduako Kodiekrom , the spokesperson for the aggrieved residents Mr Abraham Amoah said the private developer whose name was given as Kwaku Burger came as a philanthropist who had wanted to build a fence wall around their basic school.

The residents woke up to their utmost dismay having realize that the frontage of the M/A Basic Schools which was cleared of shady trees was being turned into construction of about 40 lockable shops .

Mr Amoah said the people were infuriated by the move hence the massive protest to drum home their demand for the immediate halt of the protect.

The residents said they recalled how they were swindled by the same developer who promised to fence the community’s M/A primary school after having encroached on part of the school land at the time of building a private hostel facility nearby.

This they said never materialized an so therefore vowed to fiercely resist any attempt to take over the JHS side of the school.

When contacted, the Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive Mr Abraham Antwi said the protect was in line with an agreement they had with the said developer to put up shops at the frontage of the the school as he built a fence wall around the school under a Build -Operate- and Transfer system (B.O.T).

Meanwhile the Assembly Member for Deduako Apemso electoral area Hon Richard Nyarko who doubles as the Presiding Member of the Oforikrom Municipal Assmbly said the traditional authorities in the area were consulted and that they gave their blessings for the smooth implementation of the project. What needs to be done according him is to engage the community folks for further education in order for mutual understanding to prevail in the area.
