The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has announced his commitment to working with the organisers and the family of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, to host a future edition of NkrumahFest in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Minister, the Ashanti Region, popularly known as the Golden Region, was ready to welcome the national celebration and provide a fitting platform for Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to reconnect with the vision, ideals and legacy of the country’s founding leader.
Dr Amoakohene made the commitment when he attended NkrumahFest 2026, a celebration dedicated to the life, vision and enduring legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
He said the celebration provided an important opportunity for the country to reflect on the contribution of the former President to Ghana’s development, African unity, self-determination and the empowerment of future generations.
Nkrumah’s Legacy
Dr Amoakohene said preserving the ideas and principles associated with Dr Nkrumah remained important to the country’s development, particularly at a time when the younger generation needed a deeper understanding of Ghana’s history.
He stressed the need for the country to continue telling the story of Dr Nkrumah and making his contributions accessible to young people.
The Minister explained that his interactions with young people during the festival offered valuable insight into what they knew and remembered about Dr Nkrumah.
He said their responses reinforced the need for sustained efforts to educate the younger generation about the country’s history and the role played by its founding leaders in shaping Ghana and Africa.
Youth Engagement
Dr Amoakohene noted that engaging young people was particularly important in ensuring that the ideals of Dr Nkrumah were not confined to history books but remained part of national conversations.
He said the younger generation must be given opportunities to learn about Ghana’s political history, the independence struggle and the broader vision that informed the country’s early development.
According to him, festivals such as NkrumahFest could serve as platforms for such engagements by bringing together people from different generations to reflect on the past while discussing Ghana’s future.
Ashanti Ready
Dr Amoakohene said the Ashanti Region was prepared to collaborate with the organisers and the Nkrumah family to bring the festival to the region in one of its future editions.
He described the Ashanti Region as ready to host the important national celebration, adding that such an event would provide an opportunity for residents, visitors and young people in the region to participate in activities celebrating Dr Nkrumah’s legacy.
He said the proposed hosting of NkrumahFest in the region would also help broaden the reach of the celebration and create opportunities for more people to engage with Ghana’s history and the ideas associated with Dr Nkrumah.
The Minister reaffirmed his belief that the legacy of Dr Nkrumah should continue to inspire conversations about Ghana’s development, African unity and the empowerment of future generations.
He concluded his message with the rallying declaration: “Nkrumah Never Dies.”
Dr Amoakohene also wished Ghana and Africa continued progress, saying, “Long live Ghana. Long live Africa.”
