Member of Parliament for Jaman North, Mr Fred Ahenkwah, has said President Akufo-Addo is not bold to sack Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta despite messing up the economy.

The freshman MP said the economic downturn in the country has affected almost everyone except financial engineers who are benefitting from dubious government deals.

Speaking on Dwaboase on TV XYZ Wednesday morning, Ahenkwah noted that the hardship which is as a result of the “incompetence of Ken Ofori-Atta” has rendered poor people more poorer and yet his cousin, President Nana Akufo-Addo has failed to fire him.

According to him, Ken Ofori-Atta is happy about the hardship being battled by millions of Ghanaians in the country.

“I am telling you that a person closer to Ken Ofori-Atta becomes happy when Ghanaians are complaining of the hardship,” the MP told host Prince Minkah.

He went on and raised serious concerns about the country’s economy that has been tagged by experts as junk yet the minister who plunged the country into a debt crisis is still at post.

The MP’s concern comes at a time Ghana is expecting IMF to bail the country out to balance the economy.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has stated that failure to secure a bailout with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by mid-March may ground Ghana’s economy to a halt.

Addressing Pensioner bondholders who have resisted their inclusion in a domestic debt exchange programme on Monday, February 6, the Finance Minister pleaded with the pensioners to accept a 3.5% cut and accept the new terms of 15% coupon rate and 5% maturity.

“We really feel that government has listened, there is humanity to us, we are protecting the destitute, widows and the orphans and the older people who have worked for this nation. We are in a crisis, we cannot put our heads under the sun and pretend that we are not.

“We need to be mindful that we really need to be successful in going to the fund by this March to avoid what we all experienced last year which we all don’t want to experience again.”

But the NDC believes the Finance Minister is incompetent and must be booted out of office for failing to appreciate the suffering of Ghanaians.
